Known as one of the premier drag racing organizations in the United States, NMCA will host five Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series events this season.

The program provides an emphasis on modern LS/LT performance and is made up of three official championship categories: CP Stock, Rumble and Street King.

Stock is a naturally aspirated, heads-up class designed for 1955 and newer GM-bodied vehicles. The cars utilize a production, OEM-sealed Chevrolet Performance DR525 crate engine, combined with a factory Chevrolet Performance-sealed ECM and installation kit. The class is designed as a low cost, entry-level option with stiff competition.

Rumble is an Index category designed for vehicles 11.00 or slower with bracket racing electronics and transbrakes prohibited. Any manufacturer’s body is permitted, but it must be stock-appearing, and the vehicle has to be powered by a GM LS, LT or LLT V6 engine.

Finally, Street King is the premier category in the program. This Index category features a minimum e.t. of 11.00 with the Indexes getting quicker from there. Transbrakes are permitted, and as in Rumble, any manufacturer’s body is allowed as long as it utilizes an LS, LT or LLT V6 engine.

The series kicks off during the NMCA All-Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway on April 4-7, then shifts to Homecoming at Memphis International Raceway on May 2-5. The NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago is slated for July 25-28, with the series moving to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, for the NMCA All-American Nationals on August 22-25. The series wraps up with the NMCA World Street Finals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on September 19-22.

The 13th Annual LSX Shootout will also return to Memphis International Raceway during the Homecoming race in May. The event will include the Real Street Shootout, open to the quickest LS- or LT-powered NMCA Xtreme Street racers. It is designed for American production vehicles with stock frame rails and 275/10.5-inch tires. According to NMCA,  it also “allows for spec’d turbochargers and superchargers with various options for nitrous-injected and naturally aspirated LS/LT combinations.” Each champion will receive $1,000, a bonus LSX Bowtie block and an invitation to the Chevrolet Performance Champions Dinner where he or she will be presented with a 2019 champions ring.

The ever-popular LS Fest at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, will play host to Stock, Rumble and Street King as part of the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series on September 7-9 as well.

In addition, although not an official category in the series, the Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge will be a part of every NMCA event in 2019. The Street Car Challenge is open to the first 75 owners to register their LS or LT-powered vehicle, and participants will receive one complimentary car and driver race credential valued up to $175. This allows individuals to experience the power of their modern muscle car in a safe, controlled environment with step-by-step instruction.

The NMCA schedule kicks off on March 7-10 with Muscle Car Mayhem at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. Plenty of Chevrolet Performance power will be on hand throughout each NMCA category, including the Factory Super Cars, where the COPO Camaro will battle other factory muscle from The Big Three for drag strip supremacy.

It will be an entertaining year, so be sure to keep watching The BLOCK and @theblockdotcom on Instagram for drag racing coverage all season long.
