Some of the world’s most stunning builds and desirable cars roll across the auction block each year during the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Sometimes the vehicle isn’t the only story though. Such was the case with Jeff Gordon’s black-on-black 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R this year, which earned $600,000. All proceeds went to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation which supports pediatric cancer research, treatment and patient support programs.

Amazingly, the car initially hammered at $400,000, but the winning bidder donated the car back to the auction, where it sold for an additional $200,000.

The stunning Corvette Z06 has just 747 miles on the odometer and is also one of only 570 C7.R-equipped coupes. It features the C7.R Special Edition Package, the Z07 Performance Package and the 3LZ Preferred Package. Under the hood is a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V-8 engine which makes 650 horsepower. It is backed up by an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The car also handles like a dream thanks to magnetic ride suspension damping, traction control, active handling stability, four-wheel ABS brakes with slotted rotors and six-piston front calipers, limited-slip differential and a rear differential cooler. A multi-mode performance exhaust is included as well making a throaty rumble.

The aggressive-looking exterior features carbon-fiber ground effects and a carbon-fiber hood, along with painted aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot sport performance tires to grip the road.

The interior utilizes suede microfiber accents and among the creature comforts are power-heated and cooled carbon-fiber and suede competition bucket seats, variable-ratio speed speed-sense power steering and a Bose premium audio system.

In short, it’s a car that was fit for a NASCAR Hall of Famer. But thanks to his good heart, the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation was the real winner.

Gordon speaks in detail about the car in this Instagram video.
