The most recent addition to the Silverado lineup comes in the form of the all-new 2020 Silverado HD, with both the 2500 and 3500 editions available in mid-2019. It comes in five trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and the range-topping High Country for a wide variety of cab, bed, chassis and driveline configurations. The Crew Cab option is longer, wider and taller than previous versions, with a wheelbase that’s been stretched 5.2 inches and scaled for HD customers.
Each model includes distinct exterior design details including grilles which feature either the Chevrolet stamped bar or the Chevy bowtie, along with a mix of black, body color, chrome or the two-tone metallic trim exclusive to the High Country. In addition, a Z71 off-road package will be available on Work Truck, LT, LTZ and High Country.
The truck, which will be built in Flint, Michigan, has a bold and aggressive shape designed to capture the power and capability of the vehicle. Two powertrain options are available: an all-new 6.6L V8 gas engine with Direct Injection making an SAE-certified 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque utilizing a Hydramatic 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission, or the proven Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V-8, which offers 445 horsepower and produces 910 lb-ft of torque with an all-new, Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission.
The all-new 2020 Silverado HD also incorporates an Autotrac active two-speed transfer case on 4x4 models, which allows the truck to seamlessly shift between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive based on road conditions.
Among the many other notable elements of the all-new Silverado HD is the greater towing capacity than before, driven by chassis and suspension enhancements and new propulsion combinations. Incredibly, the towing capability with the available Turbo Diesel V-8 has increased 52 percent to a class-leading 35,500 pounds*, making it the best-in-segment towing truck in the heavy-duty segment. This is accomplished thanks to the Allison® 10-speed transmission being better able to transfer all of the Duramax’s torque to the pavement, allowing more torque to be put to the ground in lower gears.
The Silverado HD also features a HD-exclusive sculpted exterior design, heavy-duty details which make work easier and more intuitive, as well as Durabed, the HD segment’s most functional cargo box, and a larger cab enabling more spacious interiors.
In addition to increased towing capability, the all-new Silverado HD introduces customer-focused advanced towing technologies for a confident towing experience. The in-vehicle Advanced Trailering System, now integrated with the MyChevrolet mobile app**, includes trailer profiles, trailer light test and pre-departure checklists. An available class-leading 15 trailer camera views (requires dealer installed accessory camera) like HD Surround Vision*** and transparent trailer view help with visibility when towing.
Meanwhile, the popular 2019 Silverado 1500 was introduced in early 2018 -- 100 years after the first Chevy trucks were delivered to customers. This all-new Silverado is capable of up to 450 horsepower and is larger, yet lighter, than previous versions and incorporates six engine/transmission choices across eight models, each with their own distinct personalities. The options are Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country. Among the engine choices are a 3.0L Duramax Turbo Diesel (available in spring), 2.7L turbo, 4.3L V-6 and advanced 5.3L and 6.2L V-8s with Dynamic Fuel Management allowing users to choose the right combination of power and efficiency. A 5.3L version with Active Fuel Management is also available. Both the 3.0L diesel and 6.2L V-8 are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and utilize start/stop technology to improve efficiency.
Other features include Durabed, the most functional light-duty bed in the segment, including class-leading cargo volume, an available Drive Mode selector to choose the truck’s performance in certain conditions, and a bold, modern design which is also designed to be exceptionally aerodynamic. The design celebrates the Chevy heritage with the CHEVROLET name stamped on the tailgate, but also incorporates modern customer preferences such as integrated dual exhausts and up to 33-inch tires.
Also available are 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD medium-duty options perfect for fleet owners which are easy to drive and service.
While the trucks themselves provide plenty of options straight from the showroom floor, Chevrolet Performance also offers a wide range of vehicle upgrades for the Silverado 1500 for even more personalization and power.
These upgrades are designed, engineered, tested and backed by Chevrolet. Among the options are a 2-Inch Suspension Lift, Cold-Air Intake Systems that significantly reduce air intake restriction, Exhaust Upgrade Systems that increase horsepower, and a Front 6-Piston Brembo Brake Upgrade System in Red and complementing Rear Color-Matched Brake Calipers.
