The 8L90-E transmission is adapted from the production-based version, features a 664 lb-ft torque limit and is available for either the LT1 or LT4 crate engine option. A slip-yoke design is for use with the LT1 and a fixed-yoke design is to be used with the LT4.
According to Chevrolet Performance, the 8L90-E’s numerically high 4.56 first-gear ratio offers strong take-off performance while a wide 7.0:1 overall ratio helps optimize cruising efficiency.
Other features include four gearsets for greater efficiency, five clutches (two brake and three rotating), world-class upshift speeds and friction-reducing features, including synthetic fluid. A torque converter, controller and harness are included.
