The Mighty LT4 Crate Engine

The LT4 crate engine from Chevrolet Performance is quickly becoming one of the most popular power plants in the Bowtie’s renowned crate portfolio. At car shows and other automotive events across the nation, the LT4 seems to be everywhere.

A look at the 376c.i. engine’s specs leaves little doubt as to why it’s seen so often. The supercharged, 6.2L LT4 is the heart of the Corvette Z06 and is capable of 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the LT4 utilizes a 1.7L Eaton R1740 TVS supercharger. It spins at up to 20,000 rpm and generates more than nine pounds of boost, helping to produce all those horses and gaudy torque numbers.

Both wet and dry sump versions are available, and the LT4 can also easily be paired with an 8L90-E eight-speed automatic transmission to create a full Connect & Cruise crate powertrain system.

Through December 31, the LT4 is also part of Chevrolet Performance’s Holeshot program. Until the end of the year, any LS, LT, LSX or Big-Block crate engine purchased from a Chevrolet Performance authorized dealer is eligible for a $250 mail-in rebate.*
