One of our favorite seven-day stretches of the year is almost here. The HOT ROD Power Tour, officially co-sponsored by Chevrolet Performance, brings together muscle-car enthusiasts and general gearheads from across the land for the most epic of road trips.
For a solid week each June, HOT ROD Power Tour participants hit the road to create a giant car show and display of horsepower at racetracks and stadiums in a different city each day. HOT ROD magazine provides a trip route for the few hundred miles between stops, but it’s up to participants how closely they want to follow. Those who complete the whole tour receive the coveted title of Long Hauler. This year 2,500 long-haul vehicles are expected, as well as 4,000 individuals looking to achieve Long Hauler status.
Over 6,000 total vehicles will be a part of the seven-day affair at some point, as well as more than 100,000 total spectators.
We can’t wait to be part of it once again. We’ll be posting recaps, features and galleries from the road each day, along with a few surprises.
Each year the event kicks off where the previous year’s ended, meaning that for 2018 it will begin in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Saturday, June 9. This year’s Power Tour, the 24th annual, will visit several locations throughout the American Southeast. After leaving Kentucky, it will swing through Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina twice, with the tour wrapping up at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte on Friday, June 15. A full schedule is below.
We’ll be there every step of the way, covering some of the great builds featuring Chevrolet Performance products and the interesting people we meet. We’ll also spend time at the Chevrolet Performance display each day, where the brand will feature crate engines, transmissions, accessories and its fleet vehicles. There are a dozen or so of these pristine rides slated for the event, ranging from classic Chevys to special editions of its newest models. Chevrolet Performance experts will also be on hand to answer questions.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet Performance Motor Medics will make the entire trip in a Silverado designed to look like a military-style ambulance. These knowledgeable folks are armed with a full complement of ACDelco parts and will work with participants to solve any problems that may arise (regardless of vehicle make) over the 1,300-mile stretch.
Check out a preview of this year’s Power Tour in the video above and take a look at the 2018 route and photos from 2017 as you scroll down. We can’t wait to hit the road. After all, it’s the best place to make new friends and create lasting memories with old ones.
